1. What is Math-Whizz?
Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus is an online tutoring service for elementary and early middle school students, ages 5 to 13 years old. Using the initial assessment results, Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus creates a personalized lesson plan and dynamically adjusts lesson delivery in response to your child’s instructional needs. Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus covers National and State standards, and uses the teaching methodology and animations found in Math-Whizz Tutoring for Schools and Math-Whizz Teachers’ Resource which are used in over 3,500 schools.
2. Aren’t there other online services doing the same thing?
No. Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus is the only online tutoring service that caters to elementary and early middle school students, ages 5 to 13, that can determine a student’s math age and then create an individualized lesson plan, specific to your child’s needs. There are plenty of websites that provide quick tutorials on a specific topic, or provide repetitive practice, but no other program can as accurately diagnose and deliver instruction specific to your child.
3. Are there any effective alternatives to Math-Whizz?
Yes, you can hire a private tutor or an expensive tutoring service for your child, though the cost will typically be between $50 and $75 per hour. The additional challenge here is finding the right tutor that “clicks” with your child. Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus provides tutoring for $19.99 a month.
4. Is it recommended?
Yes. Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus and Math-Whizz Teachers’ Resource is being used in over 3,500 schools throughout the U.S., UK and abroad.
2006 won the Major Industry (BETT) award . In 2009 it was recommended on the BBC “Click” program.Download the Math-Whizz Proof Pack for pages of recommendations from Educators, Parents and Students!
5. How much is it to subscribe?
$19.99 monthly subscription will provide you and your child with unlimited access to Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus. Access your account from any computer with internet access.
6. How do I cancel my Math-Whizz subscription?
If you wish to cancel your subscription to Math-Whizz, please email support@whizz.com. Ensure your email arrives at least 72 hours before any new payment is due.
7. How often can my child use Math-Whizz?
Access to Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus is unlimited. Your child can access their lessons, virtual environment, and consol as frequently as they like, for as long as they like. Your parent account also offers unlimited access to progress and usage reports. For more information on how to get the best results from Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus, visit How to Get Best Results
8. When can Math-Whizz be accessed?
Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus can be accessed any time from any internet connected computer – providing you with the flexibility to build your child’s studies into your routine. At school, at home, at the library, from a friend’s house or while on vacation, your child can seamlessly continue studies.
9. How secure is my child’s information?
When you create your child’s account from your Parent Account, we only require minimum information to deliver an excellent service (name, gender, username and password). For more information on how your child’s information is stored please read our Privacy policy.
10. Can Math-Whizz help with tests and exams?
Yes! Most lessons and learning objectives are followed by five exam style questions, relevant to the last lesson completed. These exam questions help to determine your child’s level of understanding, and whether your child can answer questions without Tutor support, in format similar to paper based exams. By doing so, we are ensuring that all lessons and learning objectives that are completed in Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus can be transferred to paper exercises and testing scenarios – ultimately improving test scores.
11. How does Math-Whizz differ from other products?
Books and CDs can aid in teaching and learning, but Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus is a one to one Tutor that supports your child by identifying strengths, weaknesses and potential gaps in learning. The Tutor then creates a unique learning path, delivering lessons that are most beneficial to your child. Your child’s progress is tracked, monitored and instruction is adjusted as necessary. Students receive immediate feedback on all lessons and tests. As a parent, you receive detailed, up to date reports on your child’s progress – all with the click of a button!
Some Private Tutors offer excellent teaching services for children. Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus is not seeking to replace private tutors, but to offer a more convenient and affordable service that is proven to increase your child’s math skills. With private tutors costing between $50 and $75 an hour, Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus is an excellent value for only $19.99 per month for unlimited tutoring-anywhere, anytime.
12. What is an assessment and why is it important?
The Assessment is a “test” that assesses your child’s understanding and competencies across the key topics identified in National and State standards. The initial assessment is designed to create a starting point, across all topics, for your child’s curriculum. We call this starting point your child’s math age, or skill level. Subsequent lessons will have a brief five questions test used to confirm whether or not your child has mastered the current learning objective. As your child goes through their curriculum, their math age will adjust according to their performance.
13. Why is an Assessment necessary?
The Assessment enables Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus to pinpoint your child’s strengths and weaknesses and identify gaps in learning – allowing Math-Whizz to develop a learning path designed for your child.
14. What is “math age”?
Math age is a term we use to describe math ability or skill level, similar to the way “reading age” help to define reading ability. A 10 year old student may have a math age (or skill level) of an eight year old student or a 12 year old student. Math age is measured in quarter years.
15. Can I let my other children use Math-Whizz?
Because Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus delivers child specific instruction, each child should have their own Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus account. Allowing a second child to use an existing account will disrupt the assessment and tracking process, and will reduce the effectiveness of the Tutor. However, you only require one Parent Account, in which you can monitor progress for all of your children with Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus accounts.
